Health and safety class registration
NOTE: Beginning August, 2009, all health and safety class registration will take place on line, through the LOUIE system. In order view available sessions, reserve space, and receive credit for attendance, you will need to register online, using your NAU ID number prior to attendance. View a Class Registration Guide.
Classes Offered
Certain job classifications require the completion of health and safety classes. Most of these courses are offered on the NAU campus, by ORC staff, on an as-needed basis, at no charge to you or your department. If you require a class that has no scheduled sessions, please contact Sarah Ells (523-3961) to arrange for a session. The following is a list of classes offered by ORC:
ORC 100 Hazard Communication - Required by law for any employee who can reasonably anticipate exposure to a hazardous chemical during their employment.
ORC 101 Chemical Hygiene- Required for employees working in a laboratory. Information on regulatory requirements for training, hazard assessment and exposure prevention. (Often given concurrently with ORC 100 and ORC 111)
ORC 102 Lockout/Tagout- Required for employees who will service/maintain machines and equipment in which the unexpected energization or release of stored energy may occur.
ORC 103 Confined Space- Required for any employee who will enter confined spaces during their employment. Information on definitions, classification, atmospheric testing, protective equipment and regulatory requirements.
ORC 104 Respiratory Protection-Required for all respiratory wearers. Information on Respiratory Hazards, respirator selection, fit and use.
ORC 105 Bloodborne Pathogens Initial-Required for employees who can reasonbly anticipate exposre to blood or other potentially infectious materials during their employment.
ORC 106 Basic Biosafety- One time class required for employees working in areas classified as Biosafety levels 1-3 (ex. human fluids, e-coli).
ORC 107 Biosafety Cabinet Hands-On- Strongly recommended for Biosafety Cabinet users. Information on exposure prevention methods.
ORC 108 Ionizing Radiation-Isotopes- For ancillary personnel working in areas where isotopes are used or stored.
ORC 109 Ionizing Radiation-X-ray- For employees working with or around X-ray producing equipment. Information on protective measures.
ORC 110 Hazardous Waste Management- Required for any employee generating hazardous waste in a laboratory or non-laboratory environment.
ORC 111 RCRA Hazardous Waste Accumulation- Required for employees storing hazardous waste in a laboratory or non-laboratory environment.
ORC 112 Compressed Gas Safety- Information on proper use, storage and safety precautions when using compressed gas.
ORC 113 Formaldehylde- Required for employees who use formaldehyde during their employment. Information on health hazards, methods of detection and safety precautions.
ORC 114 Carcinogens- Required for employees who use carcinogenic chemicals during their employment. Information on health hazards, methods of detection, and safety precautions.
ORC 115 Hearing Conservation-Required for employees who are exposed to noise at or above the OSHA action level. Information on types of hazardous noise and safety precautions.
ORC 116 Non-Ionizing Radiation-Laser- Required for employees who work with Class IIIB or IV lasers.
ORC 117 Asbestos Awareness (2-hour)- Required for NAU employees who may work in contact or close proximity to asbestos debris during the course of their work (but who do not remove, disturb, or abate asbestos). Includes information on proper work practices, what behaviors and activities to avoid, and how to participate in the asbestos program.
ORC 200 Select Agent Procedures- Required annually for any employee working with select agents. Information on safe handling and required procedures.
ORC 201 Select Agent Security- Required annually for any employee working with select agents. Information on security procedures for select agents.
ORC 202 DOT Hazmat Shipping- Required every three years for employees shippping or recieving DOT designated hazardous materials or dangerous goods.
ORC 203 IATA/ICOA Hazmat Shipping- Required every two years for employees shipping or recieving IATA designated hazardous materials or dangerous goods.
ORC204 Functional Hazmat Shipping- Required every two years for employees packing or shipping hazardous materials or dangerous goods.
ORC 205 Bloodborne Pathogens Refresher- Required as an annual refresher for any employee with reasonably anticipated exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.
ORC 206 Autoclave Training- Proper use of autoclaves and how to conduct quality control procedures.
ORC 300 Supervisory Training Roles- This is a new course recommended for any employees in supervisory positions at NAU. Information on resources, required procedures and responsibilities with respect to health and safety.
ORC 301 Job Safety Analysis- For supervisors. Information on procedures for JSA's and resources available to superisors.
ORC 302 Indoor Air Quality for Building Managers- For building managers, operations and maintenance personnel. Information on procedures and resources for IAQ issues.
ORC 303 Risk Assessment- Information on risk assessment procedures with regard to finance, sciences, emergency response and regulatory compliance.
